You Don’t See This Everyday.

This was taken at a friend’s potluck during the summer time of senior year. Our performance ended up horrible since my bass guitar was so out of tune, the drummer couldn’t focus, and we weren’t prepared as much as we thought we were. At least Andrew had fun being the tamburine boy.

The Action Design

February 21, 2009 at 1:57 pm (Hobbies, Music)

During the summer, I was invited to watch a BFD concert at mountain view. I didn’t know any bands there at all except for Playradioplay but checked it out anyways. Its pretty fun going with a group of friends to watch musicians rocking it out. While looking through the brochure, I’ve notice a particular band in the local band stage, The Action Design. I didn’t get to watch them since I came to the stage too late, but decided to see how they sounded like when I got home. I got to admit, I usually get attracted to female rock stars such as Hayley from Paramore and Ash from New Years Day.

After viewing their myspace, I started liking their songs. So recently, I’ve bought their two albums.

This album is their first one (the ep). These were the songs I started to fall in love with listening from their myspace and downloaded versions.

This is there new full length album. It’s the first time hearing any of these songs, so I was quite excited for it to come. The songs are really entertaining and enjoyed every moment I’ve listened. So I’m glad I’ve heard of this band and checked them out after the concert. They may not be as famous as bands like Paramore, but I hope to see them live one day. They are having a concert in San Jose, but playing at a 21 and up club.

Rock Band Concert

October 18, 2008 at 1:05 am (Music)

I’m so glad I’ve decided to go to the Rock Band Concert. Its even better going with a friend having fun with the songs rocking it out. The tickets cost $35 dollars, but it was $25 for the first 500 students to buy tickets. I bought the tickets a week before the concert relieved 500 students didn’t buy the tickets yet. Its probably not as popular as other bands like Paramore, but still worthwhile to watch. I didn’t bring my camera into the concert, so decided to use some pics from Isabelle’s camera.

As Isabelle and I arrived at SJSU campus, I realized I’ve forgotten my tickets, so I ended up driving all the way back home to grab them. Luckily we were early to the concert, so going home and coming back was right on schedule. It didn’t seem as crowded as Jeff and Np said it would be.

A concert isn’t a concert without the horns and funny faces. Looks like we’re screaming from the awesomeness of the concert.

The first band that played for the show was “The Cab”. It didn’t seem as crowded, so the view was perfect. They opened up with “One of THOSE Nights” which is a playable song on rockband. Its a prety catchy song and I can see Isabelle drooling all over the bandmates, espcially that particular one with “the hair”.

The second band that played for the night. They also started off with their rock band song, “Natural Disaster”. “Shes so sexy, I have to have her, shes a natural, natural diaster, natural disaster!” I was also quite surprised they played “Hey There Delilah”. I guess they would seeing its their most popular song.

Next band would be Dashboard Cofessionals. They didn’t start off with their rock band song, but instead, played “Vindicated”. There were alot of songs I haven’t heard from them, but they ended up playing “Hands Down”, which is on rock band, and “Stolen” as their last songs, which was pretty good. I can see the screams from the excitement in the crowd as the song “Stolen” was playing.

Between breaks of setups, there would be some individuals playing rock band 2 in front of a giant crowd of people. Seems like these individuals were winners of some kind of best buys contest. They weren’t the most leet sauce players, but they seem to had a lot of fun. The last band of the night playing was Panic at the Disco. Wasn’t qutie sure what song they started off with, but I THINK it was “Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Off Her Clothes”. Yes, a pretty long title, but I guess Panic likes to have long titles. Practically all the songs Panic played I knew, even the ones I rarely listen to. They sound a lot different live, but still was pretty kick ass. Not only did they play the songs I knew, but also ended the show in a very interesting way. The lead sing would be singing “Shout!”, which is a cover song from “The Isley Brothers” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL9xOLpwI0I ) which also was in the movie “Wedding Crashers” in that one practicular scene. If you watched the movie you would know…… Anyways, I would see the crowd full of excitement dancing with the song with their hands above their head. It looked like a giant wave of jumping fans. However, Isabelle and I weren’t in the pool of raging fans since were were pretty tired standing. Instead we were at the seats watching them from afar resting up a bit.

So after the show was over, we both ran back to the car to grab out debit cards seeing we wanted to buy matching band t-shirts. We ran back to the car and ran back to the event center, but we couldn’t get in at first. They wouldn’t let us back in till we mentioned that we just wanted to buy a t-shirt. She was pretty nice and told us to go in and hurry in a way risking her job. Although we got in, the t-shirt stand had a long crowd of people. Took us awhile till we were able to buy our shirts. Luckily the ones we wanted (above picture) wasn’t sold out. I guess cause they’re not as popular as the other three bands that played that night. The Rock Band Concert was pretty fun overall and I was glad that Isabelle was able to come watch it with me. Perhaps in the future, we can go see a Paramore concert together (hopefully they play at Warp Tour) since we’re both big fans of them.

Also can’t wait till Rock Band 2 comes out for the PS3. Looking foward to it, especially playing it with my friends.

The Rock Band Pedal LIVES once again!

October 4, 2008 at 9:01 pm (Games, Hobbies, Music, Repairs)

Okay I don’t have a before picture but here is an idea on how it looked like before when the pedal was cracked.

So one day when I was playing rock band, I started to notice a small crack on my pedal. So I decided to be cautious stepping on the pedal, but I knew it would break eventually. Out of the group, I was the only one with a functional pedal that didn’t break yet. With the new songs downloaded (Natural Disaster by Plain White Ts, Hands Down by Dashboard Confessionals, and One of THOSE Nights by The Cab), I was even more cautious of my pedal. However, one day, it broke while Larry was playing with it. Of course he offered to buy me a new one, but it wasn’t his fault, so I said it was okay and denied his offer. I wanted to send it in to get a new free one, but apparently I hear that will take forever. So as a waited staring at my broken pedal sitting on the floor in my room, my dad happens to see it. He observed the pedal and tells me he can fix it. So i wonder, can he really? So after he got the materials from his workplace, he was able to cut it to the shape of the pedal and glue/tape it on. This is the result:

The pedal works perfectly and has no flaws so far. The material used for the pedal is a phenolic wood. The material is pretty strong, alot better than the plastic they used for the pedal. I would like to thank my dad for fixing my pedal. Now I can continue to rock it out on the rock band drums stomping on the pedal without a worry that it will break, or at least for now.

A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned.

So ever since i saw school of rock, I was very fond of the bass guitar Kaite (Rebecca Brown) was playing.  So i checked out some music stores but had no any luck finding it. Till one day Kevin asked if I wanted to go to starving musician to check out the stuff there. It so happens in the acoustic guitar area, there was the semi-hollow bass i wanted sitting there. However, looking at the price tagged, my eyes widdened. It was $450, which was way more than what I have saved up. So since that day, I decided to save money, but honestly, saving money is hard especially when going out to eat alot. Perhaps I should get a job so i can reach getting this bass guitar faster. Although I’m in no rush to get it. Judging by how I’m saving, I will probably end up getting it by mid or later next year.

The Potluck Performance

August 19, 2008 at 12:36 am (Music)

Date: 7/18/08

I usually have a potluck every year at my house, but haven’t done one in 1-2 years. Seeing it was an awesome summer, I decided to add on to the fun of having another potluck. There are alot of new faces and some old. I’m glad the people who never been to my potluck got to experince it.  Last big potluck the band had a performance, but it was acoustic. With our new band members, we decided to perform an electric show for everyone to watch and enjoy. We had quite a few mess ups, but I think overall it was a success, or at least the ending was.
